Alien Apocalypse – The Storm (novella)

Even the best of men are punished for their good intentions. Leon Weber is in the final month of his prison sentence; he’s about to go home to his son. But during a violent storm, his release comes sooner than expected, and the world he re-enters is overrun by an alien menace that hitchhiked through space on the tail of a comet. His journey to find his son will be fraught with danger and death, but the future of the world rides on his survival.

Alien Apocalypse – The Storm, is a novella by author Dean Giles in which we are introduced to our protagonist Leon Weber who is in the final month of his prison sentence. A convicted man is being touted as the hero of a story? How does the author think he will gain our sympathies for a man who is a known criminal? Well, I have to say I think Mr Giles did a very good job at pulling at my heartstrings. Leon is not your typical criminal. What Leon did to gain him entry to a jail cell is most definitely an illegal act, it was a crime of passion and, at least to this reader, understandable.

So not only are we learning about a man who for all intents and purposes is a murderer, but something strange happens and the world changes. Now, Leon must gain access to the outside world and make his way home to his son who has been living with his Aunt and Uncle. With this being a novella, I don’t want to dig too deeply into the story. Suffice it to say that it is a well written journey of survival, trust and maybe even a bit of redemption.

Alien Apocalypse – The Hunger

In this prequel to the Alien Apocalypse short story series by Dean Giles, witness the murder of eight-year-old Elliott’s mother, his father’s brutal execution of vigilante justice that lands him in prison, and the malevolent consciousness approaching Earth on the tail of a comet. The hunger within this being will make all other worldly problems trivial.

Alien Apocalypse – The Hunger takes us back to the scene of the crime, so to speak, and shows us exactly what happened to put Leon Weber in jail. Our feelings of understanding are solidified even further as we learn more about the crime and how it will affect both father and son. The Hunger is definitely a nice entry into the world of the impending doom that hits.
