Spirit Binder (The Cascadian Chronicles #1)

Amazon Kindle

Theo woke severely injured, covered in blood, and missing ten years of her life.

Just to complicate matters further, Theo was born under a prophecy; one that has rabid followers with three different interpretations, all of whom are willing to sacrifice her in order to fulfill it.

Not knowing if she can trust the stranger she’s betrothed to, the warrior visiting her dreams, or even her own mother, Theo tries to piece together her past only to find that her present is far more dangerous.

It’s the power of her own blood that scares her most of all. This is a responsibility Theo never wanted, and a destiny she cannot deny, “All because of a prophecy she was trying not to believe in, but kept fulfilling.

Can you imagine waking up one day to find you have lost 10 years of you life? Where knowing who to trust has become an issue, even within your own family? And the various interpretations of a prophecy that was made at your birth is continually causing feuds.  This is exactly what happens to our protagonist Theo.  She is a very strong female character, but her loss of 10 years has made her more vulnerable than she is comfortable with being.  Over time and with some assistance, Theo’s memory begins to return and this is where I had one of my only issues with Spirit Binder (The Cascadian Chronicles #1)…there were times when I became a bit confused. Was what I just read in the present or was it a part of the lost 10 years? Maybe I wasn’t in the right frame of mind at the point where I was reading these particular scenes, but, as I said, they just seemed unclear to me.

The other characters we meet along Theo’s journey are each in themselves unique and intriguing. She has 2 men vying for her affection, both of whom she has committed herself to in past and present. So, yes a bit of a love triangle going on. I actually disliked one in particular quite a bit, but I still liked his character.  (I’m not telling which so as not to skew anyone’s opinion). Theo’s mother was a bit of a shrew, but there was something about her I respected.

Spirit Binder (The Cascadian Chronicles #1) is part one of I’m not sure how many and while it does end with a bit of a cliffhanger it is not so huge as to be extremely annoying that there is a wait involved. With magic and spells, blood ties and unknown enemies, Spirit Binder is dark, fun fantasy read that can take you away to another world.
