REMAIN CALM DO NOT PANIC TAKE SHELTER WAIT FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS THE SITUATION IS UNDER CONTROL

Society is rocked by a sudden increase in the number of violent assaults on individuals. Christened ‘Haters’ by the media, the attackers strike without warning, killing all who cross their path. The assaults are brutal, remorseless and extreme: within seconds, normally rational, self-controlled people become frenzied, vicious killers. There are no apparent links as a hundred random attacks become a thousand, then hundreds of thousands. Everyone, irrespective of gender, age, race or any other difference, has the potential to become a victim – or a Hater. People are afraid to go to work, afraid to leave their homes and, increasingly, afraid that at any moment their friends, even their closest family, could turn on them with ultra violent intent.  Waking up each morning, no matter how well defended, everyone must now consider the fact that by the end of the day, they might be dead.  Or perhaps worse, become a killer themselves.

As the status quo shifts, ATTACK FIRST, ASK QUESTIONS LATER becomes the order of the day…only, the answers might be much different than what you expect….

We follow our main character, Danny, as he goes about his day to day life. A boring job where he is rarely spoken to unless it’s to be reprimanded. His home life, which seems hardly ideal in the sense of too many children and not enough funds to do anything except barely eek out a living. As time progresses, odd things begin occurring. People begin attacking others for what seems to be no apparent reason; however, soon we discover that something inside this group of people deemed as Haters clicks and normal everyday people become vicious killers. Danny does all he can to keep his family safe…and that is all I shall say about the storyline.

It took me a little bit of time to adjust myself to reading Moody’s work. I have not read a lot of British work, so I needed to get in the groove, but once I had that covered I was off and reading and loving nearly every moment.

To be perfectly honest with you David Moody’s Hater was quite terrifying for me when I stopped and really thought about what I was reading. I read a lot of zombie books and with zombies you typically have identifiable features, bite marks, intestines falling out of the torso, putrefied flesh…etc and you learn to avoid or dispatch of creatures baring those characteristics. With Hater, there is no telltale sign of who will be walking past you with a tip of the hat and then suddenly turn and do everything in their power to take your life. It just happens and there is no warning signs….at all. SCARY!

Hater has been out for a while, so if you are like me and are late to the party, I DEFINITELY suggest adding this one to your list of must reads. A thrilling and horrifying tale I won’t soon forget.
