The “Family” kills folks for a living. They take the jobs that no one else can survive. They’re the best at bringing death, as well as defeating it. Now, one of them has gone rogue and it’s up to The Family to hunt down one of their own before he brings about the end of the world and exposes the secret existence of werewolves. It’s horror and adventure Old West Style with blazing guns, stampeding horses, flying fists, and werewolves galore.
Quite a while ago, I was given the opportunity to read a book titled Bigfoot War and I LOVED it, seriously, I talked about it all the time while reading and still talk about it now. It was just so different and unique. But this review is not about that book this is about what I feel is an EVEN BETTER book! A Pack of Wolves by Eric S Brown has me howling (yes, pun is intended) for more!
Set in the Old West, A Pack of Wolves , introduces us to some fantastic characters. The antagonist, a rogue werewolf named Samuel is spending his time slaughtering humans and those he doesn’t kill outright he turns into The Changed, which he uses to serve as members of his army. We are also introduced to “the man in white”. This man is spending much of his time helping Samuel with his agenda, but we soon learn he has an agenda of his own. Now, our protagonists are a family of pure-blooded werewolves, who are not the killers that Samuel is. They coexist with the humans and feed off animals that they hunt etc. Graham, Zed, Yule, Sarah and Shannon are your typical family. They have their differences of opinion, but one thing they do have in common is the need to keep Samuel from creating this army and obtaining his goal. Did I happen to mentions Samuel is their brother? Talk about a black sheep of the family.
A Pack of Wolves is filled with action. Wolves fighting humans, wolves fighting wolves and both being maimed, killed or, some cases, changed. There are some horrific elements within the pages of this book, but it is very well written and described in detail without being highly graphic.
So, yes, this is one of the rare occasions where I suggest you put down the coffee, click on the cover image above to head to Amazon and download A Pack of Wolves for your Kindle. Once it’s downloaded feel free to pick your coffee back up and start reading!
