A series of bizarre and brutal murders is taking place in the halls of the New York Museum of Natural History, only days before a massive exhibition is set to open. Margo Green knows that the killer is something not human, something that’s not even supposed to exist. Where did it come from, how did it get into the museum, and how can it be stopped?
Relic was suggested to me by my father and I must say, just as my music taste is similar to his my taste for books is as well. All the easier to share, hahaha.
This book was not as much of a quick read as some of the other books that I have read, but it was though provoking, and a very good book all the same. Once I got past the first 20 or so pages the flow picked up and the real adventure began when two children stray from their parents in a museum. The eldest taking the lead and giving typical sibling grief to his younger brother as they explore through areas that few or no people were in. They opened a door to a dark room and felt their way to an old metal staircase where both of them met their doom and the beginning of the museum killings began.
There is a bit of guts and gore, if you are sensitive you may beware, though I am sure that Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child could have added more details to make the readers squirm in their seats a little more. In my opinion the details were just enough without making me lose my appetite.
The characters were fairly well-developed, I think a little more work could have been done to mature them a bit more. A few were pretty odd, others your stereotypical ‘nerds’, then you have your scardy cats and your macho warriors that feel invincible.
The end of the book led the way to another to finish the story though I think that I am satisfied the leave it as it is. I do not feel that like other books you have to read the next in line to get some relief, which I appreciate.
Relic kept me on my toes, a little grossed out and very satisfied.
