Hello loyal readers!
As some of you already know that my husband, Tony Faville, is the author of the previously self-published book Kings of the Dead. I say previously, because Tony has recently accepted a contract to release an expanded edition of Kings through Permuted Press, an independent publisher specializing in apocalyptic fiction that has emerged as one of the leading publishers in the zombie genre. *insert cheering here* We are, as of this posting, unsure of the release date, but I will keep you updated as I know what is going on.
Yes, I did say expanded edition of Kings of the Dead. Tony sat down and went through Kings and was able to add ~23,000 words to the story. We have had a few beta readers, who read the original story and they all said pretty much the same thing…same great universe, just more of it. I have read a small portion of the expanded edition, but I am being a brat and waiting to be able to hold a copy in my hands. Actually, I want to go into a book story and pick Kings of the Dead off the shelf to purchase a copy. *grin*
You can “like” Kings of the Dead, the Book on Facebook to keep up with additional information, as well. That’s about all the information I can give you on the current status of Kings of the Dead, except….the cover! (there may be some slight changes, but this is essentially it)
So other than expanding the Kings of the Dead universe, you might be interested in what else Tony has been up to recently. Well, he has a blog, Tony Faville, a Boy and his Blog, where you can learn a bit about what he’s up to, conventions he will be attending etc. Back in February he was interviewed by Aaron over at Blog of All Trades about the expansion, The Walking Dead and some of his writing habits. Tony was, also, interviewed by our good friend Kris, one-half of the Screamwave Podcast dynamic duo, if you haven’t listened to Screamwave, do yourself and favor and give them a listen!
The last bit of information I can share with you is that Tony is working on another novel, tentatively titled Slow Burn. He’s been sharing bits and pieces with me and I am LOVING what I’m reading and not just because he’s my husband. He had been painting some “pretty” pictures and I love it! He even allowed me to give you a little teaser. Enjoy!
Squeezing the trigger, he launched the fifteen double-ought buck
pellets down the smooth barrel of his shotgun. The small cluster of
lead pellets closed the relatively short distance between Reggie and
the infected woman in milliseconds. Easily finding their target they
struck as one at the small point between the eyes. Penetrating quickly
into the skull, the pellets caused a massive increase of hydrostatic
pressure inside the cranial cavity that was more than the thin shell
of her skull was able to contain. Before the pellets could continue
through the brain and the other side of her skull, her head exploded
like a water balloon, throwing what was once the home of her hopes,
dreams, and knowledge into the alleyway behind her in a sticky mess
resembling nothing more than bloody and rotted cottage cheese.
Now doesn’t that just paint a picture in your mind? Give me more of that and I’ll be a happy horror loving lady!
That’s all for now, I’ll keep you up to date on things as I learn more.
Heather, that excerpt is fantastic! It definitely created a strong mental picture for me. I can’t wait to read more.
